What Can You Expect in Individual Therapy with Me?

Updated: Jun 14, 2024

With me as your individual therapist, the process starts with establishing that we are in mutual agreement that we would be a good fit to work together at this time. As research demonstrates that your relationship with your therapist (that you feel safe, able to trust them, and feel like they really ‘get you’) is the most important indicator of achieving positive outcomes in the therapy process, finding the right fit is a very important first step.

Once we have established that we would be a good fit to work together, the focus is on fully understanding what you’re struggling with, where this might come from, and exactly what you are wanting to work toward now.

There is not a one-size-fits-all method for therapy and you have unique needs that need to be fully understood and acknowledged in order for you to move forward and make progress toward your goals. Before we get too deeply into the work I will want to make sure I really understand what you are wanting to be different in your life so that we are working in a goal directed way toward the unique goals you want to achieve.

I take a very active approach with my clients and utilize evidence-based methods, primarily EMDR. I do this because I want you to see and experience the important positive changes in your life and relationships that you came into individual counseling for in the first place. I know you are investing in this process for a reason and although it may take time and effort, I want you to see results.

When it comes to diving into trauma work, we will first make certain we both feel you have the internal and external resources needed in order to get into the reprocessing piece of the EMDR process. When coming into therapy you do not have to have a full understanding of what you need or what you are ready to work through, this is where I come in and I am happy to help you explore this and find out.

With me as your therapist, you will feel that I am truly present in your journey and want the best for you. I see myself as a consultant in your process and am there to help you dive deep and go beyond what you are reasonably able to do alone. As your therapist I know that in one way or another you want things to be different than they are right now and I want to help you get there. Most importantly of all, when you are seeking EMDR therapy I want you to find the best therapist for YOU and would love a chance to see if I’m that therapist!
